Our Method: Getting Smarter (Continued)
Next, learn how to get better at your evangelistic efforts. We continue to fail in our evangelistic efforts because we aren’t trying to get better. Here’s a few suggestions.
o Learn from your mistakes in evangelism. If one approach doesn’t work with certain people, try other approaches, though never succumbing to compromising the truth of the gospel. Read books that will teach you about other people’s attempts at evangelizing a certain group of person or type of person. Learn from their mistakes. There’s no need to reinvent the wheel or hit the same speed bumps over and over again.
o Make your approach or presentation fitting for those you are talking to. Paul didn’t preach the same sermon everywhere he went. His message was the same, but the actual sermon itself was always different, made to fit those he was talking to at the time. For example, after reading this article do a comparison of his sermon to the Lyconians in Acts 14:15 ff to the sermon he preached to the Greeks in Athens in Acts 17:22 ff..
o Take your time. Learning to share the gospel effectively with people takes lots and lots of time. It takes patience. It takes time and patience to learn how to do this better and better. As my son’s piano teacher says, “Practice never made perfect. Perfect practice makes perfect.”
